Backroads and Riding and Walking: Ricochets June 24, 2011

 

1. 1. Oh, I've think I'm seen more meadowlark this spring and summer than ever before. Did someone tell them half the farmland further west is under water?  Anyway, I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood.  Lovely yellow--and they fit right into the "choir."

   
   2.  I need some honey bees. All these acres of clover and nary a honey bee. If I'm going to relive my childhood, I have to have honey bees. I know it would take longer to cut my grass, but I miss them. I had a small hive in the dead tree, but they must have moved on. Sigh.
   
   3.  Spent the afternoon feeding the swallows. What a glorious day to be outside.  And there must have been ten or twelve of those lovely creatures helping me mow the back pasture.  Did you send me a couple of yours, Gary?   What?  No, I'm not sending you any of my blue birds.

   
   4.  The day lily--true to its name--only has one day of beauty.   But, oh, what a day!
