A
soft rain day at The Acres--lovely day for a walk. The iris are still
in full swing; in fact, a dozen of them with buds have not bloomed yet.
In the wild area it's the beginning of daisy and spiderwort
time--islands of white and blue are slowly rising from the waves of
green. Psyche has had her kittens. They are somewhere in the garden
next to the house. I've been feeding her a little extra. Wonder how
large The Posse will be? The thistle feeders are full so I catch
glimpses of yellow and gold as I meander around the pond. A snake has
taken over the "turtle log." He is there daily and unafraid of the
human. The peony should be blooming in a day or two. And soon it will
be lily time. I think I may just need another soft rain walk before
nightfall.

Walking Iten's Acres: May Flowers May 26, 2017
Iris, of course, are not the only beauties glorifying The Acres. It has been such a strange spring weather-wise, some things are blooming early, some later than normal. If there ever is a "normal," when it comes to bloom times. Anyway, some May flowers:

Walking Iten's Acre: An Iris Walk May 23, 2017
This is my favorite time of year at The
Acres--Iris Time. I love every time of the year, but iris, as you know,
are my favorite blooms. Part of it is probably inherited--we always
had iris growing up. Some of it is reflective--so many of the iris I
have on The Acres are from Mom and Pop's. They may be "ancestors" of
those iris that I loved as a young boy--carried by my parents from place
to place as they moved. They are a reminder of Mom's time here as
well. This year the Japanese, Siberian,
and water iris have decided to bloom at the same time as the German
iris. Usually, they bloom later. And, of course, the annuals have
started to grow and bloom. It has been a colorful week. Oh, and don't worry fellow
flower lovers, there will more to come--even more iris that haven't
bloomed yet
