Posse Update:
The six desperado are still alive and "guarding" The
Acres. Momma Calico and the three rascals are here all day long. All
night long for that matter. She is the most visible one--sleeping on
the front patio, bird-watching on the back patio, staring in the front
doorwindow to remind me of my duty to feast and water The Posse. Queen
of the Ranch indeed. The boys are in hiding most of the
afternoon--escaping the heat, i think. They disappear into the weeds, slip
under the red wagon--but they never go too far. They are getting a
little braver the last week, even wandering down to the pond. Playful
kittens still. Entertaining. Not nearly as fearful of my presence as
they first were. They even copy cat MC and stare at me through the
doorwindow at times. Their favorite game is to try to catch the
bluejays that "steal" the left over cat food. It seems to be a mutual
thing.
Big Tiger and the smaller calico come and go throughout the
day, and sometimes don't show up at all. SC seems to always be coming
from the wild area. When she gets tired of the kittens, she gets on top
of the little red wagon and just sits safe and secure--for now. All in
all, they seem to have decided that this is home. In fact, I'm
beginning to think that I'm the one being watched and not the other way
around. When they start dropping off critters at my door for my dinner,
I'll know my place in the universe has taken one more step toward the
bottom of the ladder. The abyss awaits. I'm sure Homesteader will
spend the day smirking. Well, smirking and bossing me around as usual.
It's a feline conspiracy.
