Today at Iten's Acres: A Summer's Day July 20. 2016

Typical summer day at The Acres:

Alarm clock goes off around six.
Then, feed the alarm clock. Feed The Posse. Feed the feathered friends. (This at times requires a little trek to the thistle feeder by the pond and the hummingbird feeder near the front of The Acres. How they eat all that thistle so quickly is amazing. And though I have not seen one hummer or anything else on that feeder, it just keeps going empty. Ghost hummer?)
Study--just started the Gospels.
Check the internet. See how the Cardinals managed to lose this time. Put something on facebook usually.
"Work" in the cool of the morning. Moving stones. Mulching. Trimming the brambles that are encroaching on the paths in the Wild Area. They are on a relentless, insidious mission to conquer the world--and winning.)
Walk--a couple times at least.
Spend time on the Green Throne enjoying the silence.
Read in the heat of the day.--essays by Robinson the current book.
Early evening--more work. Moved some iris, more mulching, watering.
Supper for The Posse.
Spend the evening reading, writing, cleaning (yes, I do that once in awhile--the day's dishes, vacuuming. laundry. Once in awhile.)
Tonight's entertainment--three kittens chasing lightning bugs

Such is a day at The Acres. It's challenging being a full time recluse, but I manage.

Posse Update: A Feline Conspiracy July 16, 2016

Posse Update:
The six desperado are still alive and "guarding" The Acres. Momma Calico and the three rascals are here all day long. All night long for that matter. She is the most visible one--sleeping on the front patio, bird-watching on the back patio, staring in the front doorwindow to remind me of my duty to feast and water The Posse. Queen of the Ranch indeed. The boys are in hiding most of the afternoon--escaping the heat, i think. They disappear into the weeds, slip under the red wagon--but they never go too far. They are getting a little braver the last week, even wandering down to the pond. Playful kittens still. Entertaining. Not nearly as fearful of my presence as they first were. They even copy cat MC and stare at me through the doorwindow at times. Their favorite game is to try to catch the bluejays that "steal" the left over cat food. It seems to be a mutual thing.
Big Tiger and the smaller calico come and go throughout the day, and sometimes don't show up at all. SC seems to always be coming from the wild area. When she gets tired of the kittens, she gets on top of the little red wagon and just sits safe and secure--for now. All in all, they seem to have decided that this is home. In fact, I'm beginning to think that I'm the one being watched and not the other way around. When they start dropping off critters at my door for my dinner, I'll know my place in the universe has taken one more step toward the bottom of the ladder. The abyss awaits. I'm sure Homesteader will spend the day smirking. Well, smirking and bossing me around as usual. It's a feline conspiracy.

This Week at The Acres Lily Time July 9, 2016

Another week at The Acres.  Lily of every make and model.  The gladiolas are starting.  Sparkler allium just in time for the fourth.  And the first phlox as well.  Enjoy your walk.  (Could use a little rain, though)
