Brrr January 20th, 2019

A winter weekend indeed. I woke up Saturday morning expecting to spend my day watching the snow come down. Instead, a little snow and a day of ice filled the time. Numerous trips to the bird feeder kept me busy. They were certainly busy! And I'm sure they'll be busy today as well. Lots of the usual suspects--all the cardinals in Ohio I think; they can make a snow fall gorgeous. One unusual visitor--a mockingbird. He might be wishing he had gone south this winter.
Woke up Saturday morning to a pristine snowfall. Chilly day but not unwalkable. Aaron came by and plowed the driveway--it's nice to have good neighbors. I just spent the day sitting in the chair by the doorwindow watching my feathered friends and entertaining the Boss. According to Aaron it's supposed to drop to minus 10 tonight in Morrow County. If so, I doubt I'll do much walking today. Poor students--could have had a couple of snow days with a little different timing. Poor things--breaks my heart. Hope they don't cry too much.
The most stunning beauty yesterday came at sundown. The sun turned the ice-covered trees into a golden glow. It was magnificent and lasted for 45 minutes or so. Then, for the last fifteen minutes before the sun set, the trees turned red. Just beautiful! Don't think I've ever seen anything just like it. Trees made of gold reaching sixty feet into the sky.
As usual, the song sparrows, cardinals, and snowbirds were the last feeders in the evening. I'm sure they'll be back tomorrow morning--early. I wonder if the mockingbird will be back, or if he packed up and headed back to Carolina? Winter days have a beauty all their own--feathered friends, sunlight masterpieces, chats with the neighbors; all in a day's "work."
